Hot on the heels of the Foundation Day event, the people behind the curtain at Final Fantasy XIV have another event waiting in the wings. This time happens to be their take on Halloween. All Saints’ Wake is the name of the event, and it comes to us complete with its own chunk of official lore– another one of those nice tidbits of historical info that helps to flesh out the world of Eorzea.

All Saints’ Wake happens to be an annual tradition in the world of Eorzea. In the past, people would lock themselves up in their homes before nightfall that day, in order to avoid the creatures of darkness. That practice has continued until this day, although the initial meaning and fear surrounding it has most certainly faded over time. But this year, there happens to be a little problem. Apparently Eorzeans make it a habit to keep Imps stored in prisons. And the prison in each city state happens to be guarded by your standard Gilligan-type characters. Meaning they all decided to go home and leave the prison unguarded because they were big, fat, scared-ey cats. Cue the part where the imps escape, disguise themselves as people, and wreak havoc among the unsuspecting populace. Crap.

But that’s where you come in, dear Adventurer.

All Saints’ Wake is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 1:00 a.m. through Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 7:59 a.m. (PDT). In order to participate, you just need to speak to any of the Adventurers’ Guild runners, who will appear in the following locations during the event:

Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks

Ul’dah Merchant Strip

The event is still several days away. Until then, you can keep yourself busy looking at more of this incredibly awesome artwork by Akihido Yoshida. You can also view the official news post on the Lodestone, which goes into more detail about the lore behind the holiday and the story behind the event.
