Go Team Derp 12: Playing Minecraft XIV

by Orophen on Oct 30 2011 , 5:49 pm

We’re back on a regular schedule, but we’re still having audio issues. Mainly Orophen just has to get a new mic. So bear with us and hopefully we’ll have it worked out by next episode.

Rubicon and Frei Get a Word In

Since Calaera and Orophen took over earlier this week to talk about FFXIV 2.0, Rubicon and Frei finally get their chance to give their opinion on the upcoming massive change to FFXIV. We try our best to give them a chance to talk.

Today’s Big Story

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part II
Yoshi-P will do another Letter From The Producer LIVE broadcast on November 3, 2011 at 12:00 a.m. Pacific. The topic of the broadcast will include content from the recent release of Patch 1.19, upcoming content from the approaching Patch 1.20, and also what we can expect from the game beyond that. We’re looking forward to Wada doing a whole Gallagher routine for us this time.

Patch 1.19 Impressions

We discuss our impressions of Patch 1.19 so far. We haven’t experienced all the content, so it’s not a full review. We’ll talk more about that as we get further in the game.

Other News

New interviews this week, which means new information to sift through: Free Company info, new classes, a Legendary Weapon system, and Ifrit is just too good for those lowly Summoners.

Hey guys, just wanted to clarify (not sure if it got cleared up later in the podcast, still listening), but the new engine is a completely new engine being developed by some of the same staff as the “luminous engine” but is not that engine. It’s being developed specifically for MMOs, while luminous is being developed for console games.

Just thought I’d clear that up, there’s a lot of confusion about it.

Love the podcast, guys. Keep up the pace!

    • Orophen

Yeah, we’re well aware of that, but that might’ve gotten lost in the conversation. For those that might not have understood that from what we said, we appreciate the clarification. And thanks for loving the podcast!

AMD integrated graphics can’t really be compared to the Intel integrated graphics. That’s like comparing the speed of a slug to the speed of a Ferrari. With AMD being the Ferrari and Intel being the slug. Obviously when comparing the Llano platform with current gen mainstream like a Radeon HD6950 or nVidia GTX 560 Ti, the Llano becomes the slug and the mainstream cards become the Ferrari.

BTW since you’ve speculated, the AMD Llano platform (A6-3400M etc.)is fully capable of running the current FFXIV at standard settings @ 30fps. Two of my friends are playing on $500 AMD Llano laptops without any problems and yes they’re both very aware of how much faster and how much prettier the game can be on a better computer. The only caveat is you have to overclock the processor because they’re clocked VERY conservatively. I pushed one to 2.4GHz from 1.5GHz and it’s been 100% stable at full load for 24h.

Sorry for late reply, I’m listening randomly @ school during breaks >_>

Ah, that’s interesting to note! I honestly still wouldn’t want to game on a integrated card; AMD or not. But budget conscious gamers should be made aware of those options! I’ll try to include that tid bit in the next episode. :) Thanks!
