SBXIV 25: Kickstarting 2.0 at E3

This is our Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 at E3 episode! Calaera is hosting today and we go over all the interviews, screenshots, and nuggets of information that have come out over the past week. E3′s not the only thing we have to talk about, though. There was plenty of news about the current version of FFXIV as well, including Patch 1.22b, a new Letter From The Producer, and information on FFXIV’s version of Relic Weapons. Warning! This one is a long one with over 2 hours of content! But we had tons of fun doing it and we’re hoping you’ll enjoy it, too!

I love you guys and I know you’re gonna lol hard at me but is there any chance you could get your podcast in the Microsoft store. I can stream it to my sexy new lumia 900 windows phone but on my windows phone and my android Xoom tablet it locks me down to only listening to your podcast.
Can’t surf the internet or play angry birds space while listening.

One of my favorite episodes so far!

Also I picked Summoner/pet class, and Thief/Assassin class. Justification – Summoner is my favorite job in the series.

  And I don’t mind a summoner class (I honestly like them myself), but I do mind the crazy people throwing a shit storm on the forums over Yoshi-P ruining the prospects of a summoner class. D; Pets in MMOs just seems to make things a bit… off. Just looking at XI’s summoner and dragoon there was kinda a hot mess. If they can implement summoner in XIV in a way that doesn’t make people wanna cry, then I’ll be happy. But I do have my reservations, especially since Yoshi-P himself said that they would have to nerf dragoon if they gave them a damn pet.

    I can understand the argument against wyverns because Dragoon is a melee class whose damage is dependent on weapon skills, but summoner would just have to function through their summons. Basically each summon could (and should) be a specialized mage that you could command (similar to FFX). The problem with summoner in XI is that they had no area where they specifically specialized, and so they were relegated to backup healer. I think that Yoshida’s team could do a better job of figuring out how Summoner could work balanced against the other mage jobs.
    
    People complaining in the forums haven’t read the interviews where Yoshida had said that summoner would still summon primals, they would just be lesser primals. An example given was carbuncle.

      There were some people who still complained even after they found this out. Their argument was something along the lines of: a summoner just isn’t the same with the “traditional summons” like Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut and etc. The ones on the forums that want more than lesser primals are trying to work out ways that summoning the big named primals can work. Which is ludicrous and annoying to see. Especially since they have no idea what primals they’ll get or how the summoner job will work.

        Yeah, but even if we could summon the bigger primals people would find something to complain about. That’s just the community. I just don’t think that the job would be flawed the same way that dragoon would be by having a wyvern, since the job would likely be dependent on/symbiotic with their pets.
